Manhigut Yehudit Week In Review

Manhigut Yehudit's Gala Event Hits a Home Run at Yankee Stadium

March 1, 2010...New York...

Manhigut Yehudit – the largest faction inside Israel’s ruling Likud party - held its 8th annual gala dinner in New York on Monday night, March 1st, at the New Yankee Stadium Legends’ Club. The room overlooking the snow-covered baseball field was filled to capacity with a diverse group of close to 400 enthusiastic supporters from New York as well as guests who flew in for the evening from all over North America.

Manhigut leader Moshe Feiglin, who has run and plans to run again as the Likud candidate for Prime Minister of Israel, spoke about the crises facing Israel at this time. He explained that the left-wing in Israeli politics has failed and the mainstream right-wing offers no alternative. Current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has abandoned his own electorate to embrace the policies of the left with alarming results. Israeli leaders cannot visit Europe without fear of being arrested, and anti-Semitism is rising rapidly world-wide. Mr. Feiglin emphasized that this situation is caused by Israel trying to be “a nation like the other nations” instead of “a light unto the nations”.

Mr. Feiglin presented his solution for the State of Israel - that it be guided by Jewish principles and Jewish values. No longer can Israel bear to be led by those who give lip-service to their Jewish roots while at the same time evicting Jews from their homes and insisting that Israeli children be taught virtually nothing in public school about their faith, their land and their history.

A heartwarming video, “Awakening”, focused on six Israelis from every background (religious, secular, men, women, ultra-orthodox, modern orthodox, right-wing, and all the way to the left) that have come together under the banner of “Manhigut Yehudit” (Jewish Leadership). Shmuel Sackett, Manhigut’s International Director, pointed out that there is no other party or political group in Israel which could bring together such a diverse group of Israeli Jews, and that this is what Jewish unity is all about.

Ira Heller started the evening with beautiful renditions of the national anthems of Israel and America. Manhigut Yehudit then honored several of its outstanding supporters. The guest of honor was Nahum Gordon of Long Island. Joining him as honorees were: Chuck Erani of Brooklyn – Eretz Yisrael Award, Tova Abady of Maryland – Eishet Chayil Award, Gaby and Frances Gozland of Riverdale, NY – Young Leadership Award, and Hirsh and Gila Dlinn of Pittsburgh – Lev Yehudi Award.

At the end of an inspiring evening that left the attendees inspired filled with hope for the future, Mr. Feiglin departed with his Israeli team to attend similar functions in Los Angeles (Tuesday, March 2) and Chicago (Monday, March 8).

After his American tour, Mr. Feiglin will return to Israel to continue the fight inside the Likud party to prepare for the pivotal upcoming Likud Central Committee Elections. Manhigut Yehudit aims to increase its plurality in this crucial body in order to keep Israel attached to its roots and its Promised Land.

Tel Aviv Court Paves Way for Likud Central Committee Elections – Feiglin Gains Expected

March 3, 2010...

Despite Israeli Prime Minister – and Likud Chairman - Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu's best efforts to derail them, Likud Central Committee elections are on track to take place on April 28th (14 Iyar, Pesach Sheni). Moshe Feiglin and his Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership) faction are expected to do well in these internal Likud elections. Manhigut Yehudit is currently the largest faction in the Central Committee, and the results of this election should serve to further strengthen Feiglin's growing power in the party.

Netanyahu has pushed hard to have the elections delayed until at least 2012 in order to gain time to register more Kadima defectors to offset the growing base of Feiglin loyalists. Tel Aviv District Court Judge Yehuda Zeft made it clear on Tuesday that elections should go forward as planned stating, “Even if you decide to declare yourselves central committee members for life and that it will also carry on to your children, it doesn’t mean it counts.” In the wake of this warning, Bibi has cancelled a planned Likud internal vote on his postponement, while leaving open his option to appeal to the Supreme Court.

Netanyahu waged an intense personal campaign against Feiglin in the 2008 Likud Party primaries. His goal was to prevent his rival from influencing the structure of the Likud list running in the general election of 2009 and to prevent Feiglin from entering the Knesset at that time. The power of Manhigut Yehudit's grassroots organization behind candidates proclaiming support for strong Jewish values and connection to the entire land of Israel won the day with Likud voters.

Bibi Netanyahu is now concerned that Feiglin's movement will sweep into a stronger position through the upcoming process of selecting a new party Central Committee. The Central Committee of the Likud was the source of the only serious opposition to Ariel Sharon's plan to unilaterally abandon the Jewish communities of Gaza in 2005 and is gearing up to become an insurmountable obstacle to Netanyahu and his current plan to create an Arab state in the Jewish biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria.
