Yerushalayim is not part of the State of Israel but The State of Israel is part of Yerushalayim: HaRav Nachman Kahana on Parashat Shlach 5775

BS”D
Parashat Shlach 5775
Rabbi Nachman Kahana

Yerushalayim is not part of the State of Israel

The United States Supreme Court is responsible for interpreting the intent of their Founding Fathers who composed the Constitution, and as such the court expresses the collective soul of the American nation. And even if some or many citizens would not agree with their rulings, the entire American nation will be held responsible by the ultimate court of HaShem for decisions taken by their earthly Supreme Court.
This week the US Supreme Court passed a decision which bluntly and blatantly states that not only does the US not recognize Yerushalayim as the capital of Israel, but Yerushalayim is not even a part of the State of Israel. The immediate implication being that one who is born in Yerushalayim is considered by the US as not being born in Israel, hence may not write in any official US document that his country of birth is Israel.
The immediate reaction of Israelis to this decision was one of disgust and revulsion at this brazen act of betrayal by the US, even though this has been US policy since 1947.

The State of Israel is part of Yerushalayim

Our sources cite individuals regarding whom the rabbis noted:
נתנבא ולא ידע מה נתנבא
Prophesied without being aware of the significance of his words

The list contains the names of Paro, Job and Gaichazi (disciple of the prophet Elisha) among others. I would not be very wrong if I say that the US Supreme Court deserves an honored place among those who made a claim but did not have a clue of the deeper truth they were projecting.
It is a repeat of the Bil’am episode, where he intended to curse the Jewish nation but in reality only blessings left his mouth.
The statement that Yerushalayim is not part of Israel was meant to give vent to a negative, belligerent, narrow political position. However, the honorable justices in Washington don’t have a clue to the profound spiritual meaning of their words, and that they were the device through which HaShem proclaims to the world the essence of the Holy City.
Yerushalayim is indeed not part of Medinat Yisrael. In fact the holy city is not part of this world. Yerushalayim hovers over the mantle of the planet somewhere between this and the next world.
Ya’akov Avienu saw the celestial ladder that connects the worlds when he said וזה שער השמים – Yerushalayim is the gateway to heaven.
The fifth chapter of Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) recounts ten miracles which were ever present in the Holy Temple and Yerushalayim, for example: The rains did not extinguish the wood-fire burning upon the altar. The wind did not prevail over the column of smoke rising from the altar. No disqualifying problem was ever discovered in the Omer offering, nor did a snake or scorpion ever cause injury in Jerusalem. And no man ever said to his fellow  “My lodging in Jerusalem is too cramped for me.”
Masechet Avot compiled by Rabbi Natan records another ten miracles which were standard in the city of Yerushalayim. There was never a fire in a home nor a home that collapsed in Yerushalayim. No person was ever wounded there even accidently. And despite the huge increase of people there during the three Festivals every person found a place of lodging, etc.
The city had a sacred atmosphere to it. There were no disturbing noises or smells. And the women of the city never used perfume because of the pervasive beautiful fragrance which arose from the holy Temple.
The Prophet Malachi states (2,7) regarding the kohanim:
כי שפתי כהן ישמרו דעת ותורה יבקשו מפיהו כי מלאך ה’ צבאות הוא:
“For the lips of a kohen preserve knowledge so people seek instruction from his mouth, because he is like an angel from God.
According to International Law, the embassy of a nation has the status of that nation wherever the embassy is. If a woman gives birth at the Israeli embassy in Washington the child is an Israeli citizen. Similarly, according to HaShem’s inter-universe law, the city of Yerushalayim is the embassy of heaven, and as such it is not part of any earthly region.
So the US Supreme Court got it right this time when they said that Yerushalayim is not part of the State of Israel. But what they did not, nor could, know is that the State of Israel is part of Yerushalayim.
The following are several prophecies regarding Yerushalayim which might interest the learned justices of Washington, and teach them to guard their collective tongue when mentioning the holy city.
Avot of Rabbi Natan:
עתידה ירושלים שיתקבצו בתוכה כל הגוים וכל הממלכות
Yerushalayim is destined to host all the nations and kingdoms.

Shir Hashirim Raba chapter 7
Yerushalayim is destined to reach the Holy Throne of HaShem
Yerushalayim is destined to reach Damascus

Yalkut Shimoni Yeshayahu 503
Yerushalayim is destined to be as large as Eretz Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael will extend as large as the entire world today.
HaShem has the ultimate quality of patience. He sees the evil of mankind but refrains from destroying the world in the merit of the few righteous tzadikim who make the world worthwhile.
However, history teaches that even HaShem’s patience has its limits. There is the proverbial straw that breaks even the strongest camel’s back. Is this absurd anti-God, anti-Bible decision of the US Supreme Court the straw that HaShem never wanted to see?
Whatever the case, we in Eretz Yisrael are not in need of anyone’s recognition of our exclusive and unique 3500 year sovereignty over the Holy Land and Yerushalayim. Certainly not the approval of the learned justices of the US Supreme Court who have yet to achieve the understanding of what is real and what is not in this world.
I wish to conclude with the inspiring words of David Ha’Melech in Tehilim 122:

A song of ascents. Of David. I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
Our feet were standing in your gates, Yerushalayim.
Yerushalayim built as a city that is joined together.
That is where the tribes ascend, the tribes of the Lord to praise the name of the Lord according to the statute given to Israel.
There stand the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
Pray for the peace of Yerushalayim:
May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.
For the sake of my people I will say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your well being.
Shabbat Shalom,
Nachman Kahana
